Police Yom Kippur 5770

Yom Kippur starts at sundown. To my fellow Jewish Snopesters, may you have an easy fast.

I'll be making eggplant tomato quiche for the Break the Fast.

Leading into Yom Kippur 5760, I heard about a rabbi who had joked that it was now the sixties, so he expected his congregation to show up wearing Nehru jackets and love beads. Makes me wonder what the seventies will hold ...

This'll be my first fast in three years. In 2006 I was pregnant, then for the next two years, I was nursing. Not looking forward to it. I've generally never had trouble with fasting. In fact, my worst year was when I was taking an antibiotic that said "take with food," so I put some peanut butter on bagel, and cut it in two. I ate half in the am, with 8 oz of water and the pill, and half around 2pm, with water, and the medicine. That was like a tease, and I was starving by sundown.

However, I can barely remember the 2005 fast, so I'm worried.

I'm sure I'll be OK, though.

Oh so pregnant and nursing women are exempt from the fast?

Yes, as are children, and anyone with health issues.

According to the Torah, we are to live by the commandments and not die by them.
