Icon02 Census survey has something to rile everyone

Some advocacy groups demand that illegal immigrants not be counted. Another urges a boycott. Others say they just won't answer some questions.

Republican fundraisers use it to attract donations. Some want criminals serving time elsewhere to be counted in their hometowns.

This intense special-interest brawl can mean only one thing: It's Census time.

Efforts are underway to require that only citizens be counted for the purpose of apportionment. Supporters, including Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, who introduced legislation last week, say including non-citizens gives more seats to high-immigration states.

Bennett is being challenged for re-election next year by several candidates running to his right, and gun rights and close adherence to the Constitution are popular issues among them.
So how will attempting to directly contravene the constitution go over with those people?

Here is an article about the white house pondering counting same-sex couples in the census, and here is an opinion written as a response to the announcement that same sex couples will be counted.

Since this is my "Hot button" census issue, I'm just happy that same sex married couple will be included, and that one day I can be a part of that.

Maybe they will offer to compromise, to count each immigrant as 3/5 of a citizen. That would be at least in the spirit of the (original) Constitution.
