Computer Microsoft takes notice as more people use free Google Docs

Some big companies are starting to move their spreadsheets, word-processing and other productivity programs off of PCs and on to the Web.

About 20% of respondents to a study by researcher IDC say Google's Google Docs offering is widely used in their organization, up from 5.8% a little more than a year and a half ago.

This good news for Google has not gone unnoticed at Microsoft.

I'm not surprised. Microsoft is trying really hard to pull some market share away from Google, but it's an uphill battle.

Here is an example of this.

A bit older, but here's another article about the struggle between the two corporations.

I'm trying to remember where I read it, but I want to say somewhere in a recent (within the last two months) issue of Businessweek, the opinion is that there will be a big three way battle between apple, microsoft, and google eventually.
