Borg Doctor Who Dalek created out of 480,000 matchsticks

Nearly 50 years after Dr Who first did battle with the Daleks, here is the proof that he has at last met his match - all 480,000 of them.

This full scale matchstick model of one of television's scariest aliens is the work of Brian Croucher, 66, who spent more than two years on the task in the sitting room of his end of terrace house in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

Well done Mr. Croucher.

Mrs Croucher's sigh of relief at not having to share a sitting room with a Dalek may, however, be short-lived. Her husband is planning a Spitfire, with a six feet wingspan, and wants to build a boat that can be rowed across the Channel.
Now there's an idea for a Dr. Who plot. The Nazis develop a Dalek and use them to invade Britain in World War II, but they are defeated by a squadron of Spitfires.

Here's Mr. Croucher's local paper's report, with a video.

Isn't a bit odd that they tell you he lives in an end of terrace house.

I might have to start mentioning the fact I live in a top-floor flat at every opportunity.

Nitpick. It should really say 'the Doctor' rather than 'Doctor Who.' Although as its a mistake the the shows own credits have made I can't get too pedantic.

This is pretty awesome. I've heard that you can make pretty good money with life-size Dalek models, taking them to conventions and things.

My official Dalek plans say that it costs £15 to make a Dalek (mind you, they were published in 1973 as part of the 10th anniversary.)

I had those plans. We worked out that we couldn't even buy the fiberglass for that money, let alone the plywood the foam balls, the castors, the paint the sink plunger and the egg whisk et al. At least £50 would have been nearer the mark.

Not having a spare £50 - project abandoned at the planning stage.
