Fiery anti-Israel speech sparks walkout

FRANCE today led a walkout of delegations, including Australia, to protest a fiery speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the UN General Assembly.

I'm not sure the symbolic act of walking out on the speech really did much of anything. I doubt Mahmoud is thinking he should shape up or anything.

I think it did something for the citizens of the countries. I know I'm certainly proud of the Canadian delegate for walking out.

Probably not, but in an interview with NPR this week, Ahmadinejad did shift one of his infamous positions a bit, if only for a second:

Under fire for his repeated denials of the Holocaust, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called the deaths of millions of Jews during World War II a "historical event" during an interview with NPR's Morning Edition to air Friday, but he quickly dismissed the accounts of Holocaust survivors as "claims."

Of course, seeing as how he then "quickly dismissed the accounts of Holocaust survivors," it may just have been a slip.
