Read This! Thursday is National Punctuation Day!

Quote:
A celebration of the lowly comma, correctly used quotes, and other proper uses of periods, semicolons, and the ever-mysterious ellipsis.

I shall plan to use punctuation with impunity! Reckless abandon, even.

Sounds like something they used in Gitmo. Is that why they got rid of it?

Ellipsis... Mysterious? I...don't think so!

(I learned the over-use of the ellipsis from Dan O'Neill... It's sort of like a reverse exclamation point... Instead of ending a sentence with a bang...like the crack of a gavel...it simply lets the sentence fade away...like air leaking from a bicycle tire... It's for people who aren't comfortable being definite... The extremist says, "This is so!" The moderate says, "This is so." The insecure fellow...me...says "This is so..." It's a typographic effect...tantamount to "...maybe.")

(Same reason I use parentheses. Kind of a way of turning the volume knob down... Don't want to seem to be shouting...)

Silas (I hate extremists...but not to extremes...)
