Hello Kitty The trouble with kittens

...is that they're too damn adictive!

I was in the Walgreen's parking lot when a little black blur ran in front of my car. I almost hit it but hit my breaks in time. I looked under the car it disapeared under and there was this.

(That's the best I can get right now. She's still eating.)

She came right up to me with nothing around her neck, but there is a slight "dent" in her fur where there might have been something. It looks like if there was it might have been too tight.

She's clean and soft with fluffy-ish black fur and the smallest white spot on her tummy.

Poor thing was starving though. Ate all the food I put out for her and asked for more. She's brave too; hissed right back at Smokey.

I don't know how old she is. She's very small and there is still blue in her eyes.

Her ears are a bit dirty, but that's easy enough to take care of. She has no fleas, no flea dirt, her eyes are clear with no runnies or crusties, and no ticks. No worms either from what I can tell. I'm keeping her away from the others for the moment, just in case.

Oy....

She's obviously been around people, but she's skinny and starving for attention. I think I have "sucker" on my forehead or something.

ETA: She's sleeping in my arms now.

Aw, Lizzy, what are you going to name her? Walgreens is not a good name for a kitteh.

(Phar) Macy?
(parking) Lottie?

that's all I got. Except for that you rock for saving the lil bug.

It's teeny tiny and not even a real spot. More like a little bunch of white hairs that happen to be in the same spot on her belly near her hind legs.

We're calling her Pepper for the moment, although chillas suggested Wall*E since she was found at Walgreen's. So I said "What about Eva?" We'll see what she likes best.

She is fearless. She is less than half the size of our smallest cat and has stood up to them all now. Everyone seems to have already settled into the fact she's here.

She loves chillas. Hopped onto his belly and settled down and slept on him. She also "attacked" his feet a few times.

Just pointing out that all kittens eat like that. As I've learned through fostering numerous litters of very young kittens, they're eating machines and nothing but. I can attest that three lfour-week-old kittens can and do out-eat five fully grown cats. As in, the same amount of food that's more than enough for our fivesome proves less than adequate for even a trio of little sweeties - they mow through full plates of canned food like Sherman through Georgia, then look about for more.

Aw! She's such a cutie! Glad to hear she's already settling in well.

Mr S is very allergic to cats so I have to live vicariously through snopesters. Fortunately you guys give me plenty to enjoy!

Hello Kitty

Sounds like how we got our kitten, Delilah a few months back (had a thread for her back then). My wife was riding with her mother when she saw the little black streak in the parking lot of a pawn shop right at one of the busier intersections in town.

Speaking of spots, I've heard (and seem to have confirmed visually) that there is no such thing as a pure black cat. Supposedly all have a spot somewhere. 'Lilah for example has about 10 white hairs in a cluster on her side, almost as if she got a spot of flour on her.

Of course, finding kittens is a curse for us. I swear we have 'SUCKER' written on our foreheads in felinese.

Same here! If you post pics and no-one can see them, does the kitteh still go splodey?

(My latest addition thankfully seems to have stopped the bitey, swipey stuff, but will smack me when she gets over-excited. She's also turned out to love attention)

Aww, how very sweet of you to take her in. She could have gotten hurt out on her own. It sounds like the kitten was well cared for and perhaps she just squeezed out of her collar and darted away when some doofy kid put her on a leash.

I think it's a cross between that and having not eaten in a bit. She really tore into the food!

Well she hasn't 'sploded yet!

She's solid back so when it's dark, or she's on dark clothing or my black backpack you cannot see her at all.

I'm thinking something along those lines. I'll keep an eye out for "missing kittens" posters and on craigslist. But part of me thinks that if you can't take care of your pet, well, you know.

Seems I have to save one black kitten a year now or something.

Or else it's you that will 'splode

I'm convinced there is a vacancy sign on my cat flap that lights up whenever there are fewer than 3 cats in residence. One of my former cats practically invited feline guests in

When I was a kid, I tried to take our cat on a walk to the park a few block away. I put him on a leash and carried him to the park. The instant I set him down, he wiggled and wiggled and got out of his collar. Then just stood there. Thank goodness he didn't dart off or he would have been lost.

Your local paper might let you list a found ad for free. I think mine still does.

Psssst. Don't tell DH I said this but I'd like to find a couple stray cats to feed so they can help me with the mice this winter.
