Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent is becoming the "debt capital of Europe" after a number of Germans and Austrians have settled in the area to take advantage of Britain's lenient bankruptcy laws.

So now the newspaper letters pages will have comments from "Broke of Tunbride Wells" insted of "Irate of Tunbridge Wells"?

Isn't it "Digusted, Tunbridge Wells". I wonder why Disgusted never played up the Royal connection.

If the Europaupers are that hard up why Tunbridge Wells? Tunbridge Wells admittedly does not have the posh reputation it once enjoyed, but housing is more expensive than in either the Erith or Ebbesfleet area. If I had to pick somewhere to recommend to Europaupers who want to pop back home from time to time, I would pick Dover (for the ferry) or Ashford (for the Eurostar train), both of which are comparatively cheaper to live in than Tunbridge Wells. At a push, maybe the run down former mining towns surrounding Canterbury - still easier to get to the trans-channel routes from there. |
