To be fair, an American paper would probably refer to anything in the ballpark as a London institution.

Come on - Cambridge is clearly part of Boston Metro area... It's like saying NYC rather than The Bronx. If you addressed a letter to Joe Blow, Mass Inst. of Tech, Boston, MA, it would still get to him.

Nitpick though. The Bronx actually is (officially) part of NYC.
