Snake New snake-baby photos

I can't find my old thread for my first snake, Bellatrix. To continue with the Harry Potter naming convention, however, the new snake is named Luna She's an anerythrystic(sp) corn snake, meaning she has no red/orange pigment, which makes her fetching shades or black and grey. She so LITTLE, not even a foot long yet, and settling in nicely I love her pretty little head markings

That is a lovely baby snake. You're right, the head markings are very cute.

They almost look to me like little crescent moons -- appropriate to her name.

Mazel Tov on the new addition!

Morning

Nice corn. They are great snakes to keep. Small, docile, very easy to keep, fairly hardy in captivity, and there are so many different morphs to choose from.

One thing to watch out for with snakes is that they are addicting. You start with one and next thing you know you wake up one morning and wonder, "Where the hell did all these snakes come from?".

I second this! We started out with a tortoise and when he died we bourght two king snakes... fast forward to today (9 years later) and we have a whole room inhabited by 15 snakes, 5 tarantuals, 3 scorpions, 3 geckos, 2 tortoises and various snails and cockroaches and up til recent a praying mantis living in a plant! So cinsider yourself warned

I have a friedn who has 17 snakes so far...he's warned me of addiction! (Un)fortunately my fiancé is keeping a tight rein on my pet-collecting habit; he vetoed another cat a while ago and I'm not allowed any more snakes ("oh well maybe one more because we can stak the vivaria") until we get a bigger house...

Is is wrong to want to kiss a snake on the top of its head?

I'm weird. I find stuff like that as cute or cuter then little fluffy bunnies and kitties, which I don't deny are very cute.

Snake

She is just beautiful Mosh. I love her head markings.

I really do love snakes and other reptiles, but I don't think I would be a very good owner. I wouldn't get everything right and the poor things would get cold or something.

At least I can visit Fluffy whenever I like.

Corn snakes at least are surprisingly easy to look after; I resisted getting a snake for years because I thought they'd be really difficult, and some are - but not corn snakes. All you have to do is get the heat mat at the right temperature and attach it to a thermostat, which does all the hard work for you. They don't need any more heaters in the vivarium, they don't need humidity regulators or UV lamps or anything; get the right substrate (aspen shavings or beech chippings) a couple of places to hide in (toilet roll tubes are perfect) maybe a fake plant for prettiness and a bowl of water and that's your set up. Bung them a mouse every five days or so, clean up poo when required and scrub out the vivarium once and month and that's it!

www.thecornsnake.co.uk <-- this site is really good and their care sheet is my bible!
