Default Show us your art

I started a thread some time ago called 'Show Us Your Art', but it seems to have been lost in the mists of time.

I've done a handful of things since I posted that, but only a couple I'd care to show. I'll post whatever I find on my desktop in a minute ...

Oh, and the same thing stands - if you've got art, then I'd like to see it, if you'd like to post it. Show me the skill and variety of the Snopes Art Gallery! I love looking at other people's work - it makes me very jealous but it's also so nice to see how other people do things, however good they think they are.

I couldn't think of anything to paint, so I went to my old standby of drawing rats in hats. This turned out more like a mouse. I might do a whole rodent court, with (obviously) a rat king and all . The scan is turd - things that are sharp on the painting are blurry here.

John Barleycorn. It looks a bit like a beer label! I should brew my own beer (maybe cider, what with all the apples). I wish I'd spent more time fiddling with framing and all that - I did one sketch and then right to painting. Still, it's practice. It can go towards my portfolio anyway, unless I do a better one latter. I can sell the original, too. Again, with the turdy scanner. I iwish I could keep the sharpness in scans, maybe I should have a play with my scanner one day ...

This is another view of my snopes avatar character. Someone seems to have nicked his greaves...

That's so cool, but what is he ? Does he have a story?

I like his expression. He demands his greaves!

I do photography. Here's a couple on a similar theme:

And one that's not:

More can be seen at the link below.

Twankydillo, until I read your text I thought it was a guinea pig in a jester's hat, and therefore one of the finest things I had ever seen depicted in a painting. A rat or mouse is almost as good, though.
If you are planning a court, could you theme it like a chess set or similar? Shrew pawns, vole rooks, jerboa knights, that sort of thing.
I'll try and get some of my 'proper' artwork scanned, but in the meantime here is a page of b/w illustrations intended for clothing prints and jewellery. (Last time I posted some 3D stuff and this is about as un-3D as possible.)
Cameo heart
Birdcage crown (personal favourite)
Clock and Hourglass
Merry-go-round horse (I may do a full carousel with the same horses)
Black butterfly (inspired by reading about... um, the history of the lobotomy.)
Mirror
Spider

I got a Wacom recently, so hope to be drawing a lot more.

Inspired by some altered photographs I saw online, I decided to play around a bit in photoshop and made this http://kjbrasda.deviantart.com/art/s...ying-133286922.
a couple places I didn't get it lined up right, and I should have taken more time to get the head in front of the foot clipped neater, but I like the over all effect.

I'm sure I've posted this in the last thread. I had to give up drawing/painting in the last few years because of arthritis pain.

I frequent a tattoo-themed board where a majority of the members are tattoo artists (well, they're artists and they happen to tattoo as well). Every once in a while, the board owners (a husband and wife- who are not tattoo artists) will "force" us to join a "draw-off". There's no real prize other than "job well done" when you share your work. The "winner" gets to choose the next theme.

They haven't done one in a while and a recent theme was "Pain". This was my submission- I titled it "My Future"... just plain ol' no. 2 pencil on standard use printer paper. (it is a toned-down version of my grandmother's hand).

The theme right after was "Flowers". I used Sharpie markers to create these blossoms.

Up till those two things, I hadn't done anything sincethis painting of cherry blossoms (watercolor).

Years ago, I did this watercolor on canvas for a friend. I haven't spoken to him since he emailed me over a year ago and said he was seeing someone (and he broke off contact). I think he may have thrown the painting out (because he got married and moved to her house). I hope he didn't or he'd at least have the heart to contact me to see if I wanted it back. *shrug*

I did this tiger for my Aussie friend. Its mostly Sharpie markers and I put it in a frame. He still has it- hanging on the wall in his computer room.

For many years, the girls and I took a ceramics class. While most of the other ladies (of whom we were the youngest in attendance) were doing elves or gnomes, bunnies and such, we did this kind of stuff-

The Beach Snowman that I did for my Aussie friend's mum. The tree has tiny seashells as ornaments and the snowman is standing on sand (I painted the base sand-coloured and then glued actual sand to it). There are shells around his feet as well.

Skull coffee mug. I made three of them, none of which I kept for myself. Two are in England and one is in Australia.

I have an online friend (one of my very first online friends) who loves skulls and all things scary/horror. She has one of the skull mugs, and this skull.

That English friend also has this skull totem pole... and Jase has this one. Hers was painted and glazed while his was done with dry-brushing of white over black.

Coffee mug I painted for my Aussie friend.

Of course, I did some frog stuff in ceramics class. This hangs on my wall by the computer. Andthis sits on the back deck.

Some of the drawings/paintings have visible dates. I really miss drawing and I hope, after my doctor appointment in two weeks, I might be able to start again. (its a pain management appointment).

I'm so very bad about chronicling my artwork. But I have a few things saved on photobucket.

These are (obviously) some murals.

[IMG][/IMG]
In a home.

This is in a restaurant.

[IMG][/IMG]
Another home. ~ I wasn't done with it yet though! I need to find the finished picture.
[IMG][/IMG]
In a children's advocacy center. (yes, it's a little bizarre.)

snapdragonfly: those murals are disturbing! (I mean that in a good way!) I love the off-kilter picture frame! The tromp l'oeil archway is also a delight. (I always find that kind of motif so frustrating: I want to go through the archway and am sad when I can't!)

Roadsterboy: I love the motion blur in the photos. Even the motion blur in the picture of the hotel makes it somehow more "artistic." Je ne sais quoi, (which is merely pseudo-intellectual for "huh?")

FrogFeathers: I love your work, and I'm deeply sorry that arthritis has forced you to stop. The tiger was very inspiring; I love the technique. The cherry blossoms were soothing and cooling to my spirit (it's 95 degrees right now!) And the skull coffee mug was truly spiffing! I'm not sure I'd have the courage to drink from one of those!

kjbrasda: keen photo! Eerie, yet in a friendly fashion.

Pudding Crawl: I love this stuff! At first, it looks like truly 3-D work; it looks like its cut from paper! I think my favorite is "Mirror," with the young girl -- sort of like Lewis Carroll's Alice! -- regarding the mirror with something like reluctance or even alarm. The spider was daunting -- I'm a terrible arachnophobe! -- but very beautiful also.

Twankydillo: John Barleycorn is nifty, but the jester mouse is great! While mostly naturalistic, you still have managed to give him a little personality, a little character.

My own guy is my mascot and avatar, and I've written (and had professionally published) three sci-fi novels and one fantasy novel featuring him or variations of him. He's very big and strong and friendly and obedient and thick as two planks: perfect icon for me!

"Suppose a greater culture could overwhelm a lesser one solely by force of its civilization: awe them with art and music; rout them with literature; scatter them with mathematics; harry, hasten, chivvy and pursue them with costume and cuisine and sport and manner. Wars would be fought on artists' easels, battles on dance floors. Oh, were it so!"

Thank you, Silas! I think! I've never heard my work called disturbing before, but since I've always been concerned my stuff was maybe too pedestrian, I'm thinking I rather like the notion that it's not just ordinary. Of course all of those were commissions so the patron had input in the concept to some degree. But that's okay. I like paychecks.

Thanks for the kind words, Silas. I really appreciate it. Since I left high school, the only kind of comments I would get on any of my work was from my mom. And of course, she drinks out of the coffee mug I made for her, with daisies painted on one side and some kind of purple wispy (probably fictional) flower on the other.

Birdie, birdie, birdie.

That was just a thing I did when I couldn't think what else to do. I was probably drinking coffee. Atleast I didn't give the thrush a funny hat.

Anyway, I want to do a sort of fantasy painting simply about Manchester, with a woman (owing to Manchester's name origins) from the chin down holding a glowing mechanical bee, and wearing a flowing skirt depicting some other symbols (I'm not sure what yet, but the Pennines ought to be in there). The main focus will be on her hands and the bee. But I'm not sure what other things to include there or who I ought to aim it for. I rarely approach art as a piece of art, I'm usually thinking of it as an illustration for something else and I haven't a clue who'd buy something like that.

Inspired by a good friend of mine (Sid Graves--cemetaryprints.com) I will be taking my camera out to a local cemetary to find headstones. No, I won't be copying him--he is exclusively photography with a twist of photoshop.

I will be exclusively art with a slight bend of photography. I have to find a few nice grave stones/markers/etc.. to draw first.

Twankydillo-You should do a quick sketch of the thrush in a funny hat, in case it works for your animal court!

explain to me this deviant art website. Yeah, I know I am behind the times... is it just a place where artists post their works or what?

In a nutshell, deviantART is a worldwide online artist community website that promotes artists and art discussion. Artists of all artistic ability are welcome to share and promote their work be it photography, traditional media, digital media, literature, poetry, and, yes, even emotes.

Given its size, it has its share of problems with trolls and the like. Because its open to everyone with such a diverse skill base, there's a fair share of "diamonds in the rough" (so to speak), but its also large and varied enough that its easy to find something of interest for just about anyone who likes art.

It doesn't require a membership to poke around the site... you won't be able to see images marked "Mature Content", but it should be enough to give you an idea of what its all about.

I won't do it tonight, but if I sign up, it'll be under my business name--Creative Wonders Digital Art.

I've been poking around but it always seemed to be a glorified flickr thing. I guess not, so maybe I'll give it a shot.

Pretty much. You can also get critisism (constructive or not) through the comments section, and you can 'favorite' things you like, a form of critisism without actually saying anything. There's groups and chatrooms.
There is also the option of selling prints, as well as other items with your artwork on it. Your cut is pretty small, though higher with a paid subscription. Not sure how it compares with other methods of selling prints (etc.)
