United Kingdom I'm heading back to London!

Just figured I'd throw that out there. You know, in case any UK snoopsters wanted to get together for something I won't show up for. But seriously, I'll be coming on on Friday the 9th of October and will be there until Sunday the 18th (I'm leaving at around 3 that day, so that's probably out for this sort of thing). This time I don't think I'll feel nearly as overwhelmed by the aWesomeness that is London so the chances of my completely forgetting about my imaginary Internet friends will be much lower.

So yeah, if y'alls want to meet again I promise I'll make it this time! Also, as always any tips etc. are appreciated.

I would suggest getting to a Premier League match, but the 10th is an international weekend and the only London team playing at home on the 17th are Arsenal, whose tickets go for hundreds and hundreds. There's a London derby in League 1 between Orient and Brentford on the 17th, which might be fun, though the actual football will be a bit shit.

With regards to meeting up, I can do either weekend, and I'd probably recommend meeting up in The Big Chill Bar at King's Cross. But then, I always do..

As previously I'll just turn up unexpectedly to annoy people.

Ah, darn. I should have checked the Premiership schedule; I kind of wanted to go see Fulham play at Craven Cottage, for obvious reasons. The Big Chill Bar at King's Cross sounds good to me in that I have no idea what bars are good and which ones are crap (except for places that try to do Mexican).

Memory fail: I have something on the first weekend you're here, but the second is free.

An excellent venue, famed for the Pernod & Black.

I am around.

So why don't we shoot for the 17th at the place mentioned?

So, since this is my England thread, I figured I'd point out that I am finally starting to post pix from my time there on my blog. Also, I haven't updated the blog in quite a while but that shall be a'changin' (that's how you say it in England). At the risk of shamefully advertising my own self...

Anyway, despite the name these gates *were* in fact opened for Queen Elizabeth II’s mom in 1993.
Queen Elizabeth II's mother was also called Elizabeth, and was a queen by virtue of having been married to the king, so her official title (one of them) was Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. That's how the gates manage to be named after her, and yet still called the "Queen Elizabeth" gates.

That's all well and good but for this American it can get more than a little confusing! It's a very pretty gate though. FWIW there's now a second blog post with pictures that you can register your official British disapproval of. No, seriously, do so. One of my favorite aspects of visiting England was learning new things and sometimes you have to be wrong about something to learn. Also, it would cause a higher percentage of hits to get to the blog that aren't people searching for capybara pornography.

I don't even know what that is. Is that some crazy Merikan thing...?

Hey, so is there anything noteworthy to do in Cockfosters? My hotel is sort of out there (well, Finsbury Park - yes, I realize the area is dodgy - but it's on the Picadilly line) and I plan on at least taking a picture of the tube station because I am 12 years old. It'd be cool to find like a Cockfosters Museum of Cocks or something there though. Even a good pub would be fine (although I don't want to get roughed up by locals who don't see the humor in Cockfosters).

You could visit my wife's parents, I suppose, but they might think it a bit odd. Or you can just cycle along playing Rock Lobster on your iPod, replacing "Cock" for "Rock" and "Fosters" for "Lobster" when you're singing along. That's what I do. Though I can't get my head around the idea that Finsbury Park and Cockfosters are near one another- you crazy Americans with your differing sense of scale.

If you are staying around Finsbury Park, that's sort of my "manor," as true Londoners might say, and I have some suggestions. Do you like the movie Shawn of the Dead enough to be impressed by real-life locations from the movie? Or would you be interested in seeing the home of all television, which also has a pub in it?

When I hear of Cockfosters I get a mental image of Benny Hill busking at the station only clad in a guitar.

Did you get married while I wasn't paying attention, or is "wife" a figure of speech? (And should I already know the answer if my memory was any good...?) Congratulations, if so!

When's the next part of your London blog due, Johnny?

As I said, I'm off on holiday and will probably still be away on the 17th October alas. But if I do happen to be back then I'lll come along.
