Icon102 New park offers X-rated views of NYC hotel guests

Quote:
Some guests at a New York City hotel near an elevated park have been offering unobstructed views of themselves.

Guests at the Standard Hotel in Manhattan keep failing to close the curtains as they frolic naked in front of their rooms' floor-to-ceiling windows, easily viewed from the High Line park below. The park recently opened atop an abandoned elevated rail line.

I wonder if the park visitors will start showing up with rating signs, like in gymnastics.

Actually, I always wonder about this when I go to NY. The buildings are so close! It is so easy to look into someone's window, and when there are windows all over, it's hard not to!! It must be very easy for someone with a voyuerism fetish to have some fun.

Yes, I'm aware that I'm completely missing the point of the article, but I did a Google search on High Line Park and it is just so cool! A park on an old El Train line? Awesome!

Yow! Voyeurs have a new perch in New York

For naked-people watching, a newly opened park on abandoned elevated train tracks on the West Side of Manhattan can't be beat. Uninhibited guests at the Standard Hotel are happy to oblige.

Does failing to close the curtains lead of risk of prosecution for indecent exposure? Do open drapes qualify as privacy of one's own home or hotel room?

The Times noted several years ago that it has become fashionable in NYC not to have curtains on apartment windows. This has also led to a rise in bare butt spottings throughout the city.

I'd just as soon take the curtains down in my bedroom. There is a picture windows that takes up the greater part of one wall. I like seeing the sky and the trees, but I doubt my neighbors would like seeing me!

Dunno about NYC, but the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that this wouldn't be indecent exposure, what with you being inside your house/residence and all. People don't have an inherent right to look into your window; they do so at their own risk.

Are you suggesting the High Line park or the Standard Hotel as the meeting point?

Not that I could make it either way...

I think that it would depend on the circumstances. If you were unaware that you were visible, I do not see how you could be prosecuted. If, OTOH, you had been warned several times that you were visible and continued to stand naked in front of the window, I think that you could be charged.

IIRC, there was a case of a man being charged because of his tendency to stand in his picture window and masturbate. and, IIRC, he was charged because the "show" was deliberate.

Forgotten-ny.com has a bunch of stuff about the highline, as well as other urban necrology related to NYC. It's fascinating.
