Ambulance Ezekiel Emanuel on (rationed) health care

Comment: Did Ezekiel Emanuel actually say this?

"...Ezekiel Emanuel, architect of 'Obamacare,' who wrote that health
services should not be guaranteed. 'An obvious example,' he wrote, ' is
not guaranteeing health services to people with dementia.' (Alzheimer's
disease.)

"Emanuel also wrote that allocation, (rationing) of health care 'by age is
not... discrimination....even if 25-year-olds receive priority over
65-year-olds, everyone who is 65..was previously 25...' Those are the
words of amorality.

Because, of course, the way things are now, health services are guaranteed for everyone.

To be fair, "health care for everyone" is one of the major war cries of the supporters of the current reform movement. It would seem a bit hypocritical if one of the architects of the reform espoused something contrary to that.

I don't know about the truth of the statement in to OP.

That looks like one of those quotes on a movie poster, where the words which convey the critic's actual meaning are elided.

A good overview of Emanuel's views here:

Here's an investigation of the first quote, which seems to be real but somewhat taken out of context (but not totally). That site links to this report as the source of the quote, which seems legitimate.

Important is the next sentence in the report:
Quote:
This civic republican or deliberative democratic conception of the good provides both procedural and substantive insights for developing a just allocation of health care resources. Procedurally, it suggests the need for public forums to deliberate about which health services should be considered basic and should be socially guaranteed. Substantively, it suggests services that promote the continuation of the polity-those that ensure healthy future generations, ensure development of practical reasoning skills, and ensure full and active participation by citizens in public deliberations-are to be socially guaranteed as basic. Conversely, services provided to individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens are not basic and should not be guaranteed. An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia. A less obvious example is guaranteeing neuropsychological services to ensure children with learning disabilities can read and learn to reason.

Love those ellipses. Obama in fact recently said the following:

"This is...about putting the government in charge of your health insurance."

"I...believe anyone should be in charge of your health insurance decisions except you and your doctor."

""I...think government bureaucrats should be meddling."

"Your health insurance will be there for you when it counts...when you're paying premiums."

"... if you do have health insurance, we will make sure that...government bureaucrat gets between you and the care you need."

"basically pull the plug on Granma because we decided that itís too expensive to let her live anymore."

Out of his own mouth, people!!!
