Parole for Manson follower, would-be Ford assassin
The Charles Manson follower convicted of attempting to assassinate President Gerald Ford is set to be released from a federal prison in Texas after serving more than 30 years behind bars.

I'm really surprised they are letting any of the Manson family out. I figured none of them would ever be released.

Filmmaker John Waters was on NPR the other day lobbying for Leslie Van Houten to be released. He interviewed her in prison (stemming from his fascination with the case) and subsequently befriended her.

I'm trying to remember a documentary I watched, of the 4, I think Squeaky was the only one still devoted to Manson. I think Houten, Krenwinkel, and Atkins all realize the trouble he caused. Or maybe it was two of the four... but I know at least one of them no longer has any ties to Manson at all.
Of the guys, they interviewed Tex Watson was really angry that he followed Manson for any length of time and completely denounced any ties to him still.
