I wonder what weapon you would need to kill one of those buggers? I wouldn't mind joining the quest.

A rifle, but not a particularly large one. Even though they're big snakes, they still lack the thick torsos and heavy skulls that are usually the biggest problems for firearms used on large mammals.

Since this has been front page news in South Florida for the last few weeks, I'm surprised you haven't already read about their dispatch methods:

In the shade of a tree near the boat ramp, Heflick severed the snake's spinal cord by making a small incision behind its head with a pocket knife. ...From the Palm Beach Post.

Often the snakes are decapitated: "Whack, then hack" according to the Miami Herald.

Hmm, no guns allowed.

Rather like alligator hunting, then, though safer.

Two movie quotes spring to mind:

"Napalm now! We need napalm now!"

"I say we nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

Is it too late to stop pythons?

Quote:
The FWC reported in a news release that as of Friday, permit holders have captured and euthanized 17 pythons.

Nice.

Only 99,987 to go.

Wow. Someone must've had a dull job counting those 100,004 pythons.
