Police The Snopesters Football League 2009

It's back for it's third season--The Snopesters Football League.

There have been fantasy football leagues drafting since early June!! , but I've waited until training camps have actually begun to open before starting the league.

Once again, we'll be on Yahoo. The league number is 352748. The password is snopesters.

The league is absolutely FREE. Our grand prize is the people's ovation and fame forever.

Please sign up. As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask.

What, was everyone waiting for Brett Favre to make a decision on staying retired before they worried about fantasy football?

I know it's still a little early, but we don't have to do the draft ASAP. We have time.

And remember, like all the leagues I run for snopesters, it's absolutely FREE!!!

Please join.

I just joined, my team is called "The Zed Word" and this is only my third year playing fantasy football. My rookie season I went to my league's championship game, but my second year was marred by disappointment as my star QB (Tom Brady) and WR (Braylon Edwards) both underperformed miserably.

I'm looking forward to shaking my sophomore slump and bring the glory back to my fans the world over (known affectionately as Zed Heads.)

I should mention that when I said I have fans all over the world, I was defining "all over the world" as "all over my apartment" and fans as "cats."

Anywho... let's get it on.

ETA: I just saw that so far both team names are references to great comedies. (For those not familiar The Zed Word is "Shaun of the Dead" speak for zombies.)

Welcome to the league.

Nothing wrong with having pets as fans. My two dogs and my daughter's turtle comprise my cheering section. My wife merely finds my continuing attempts at fantasy sports dominance amusing.

For those who don't know, I went from calling my teams The Suburban Legends to the INITECH Staplers. I even brought my Milton bobblehead to my live draft for my work league last season.

As soon as I saw your team's name I knew I'd fit in in this league... my wife and your wife should spend Sundays together... then they'd have someone to agree with them about how ridiculous we are.

Welcome to the both of you. Good names. Maybe every team will have a movie-themed name this season.

The Trouser Browns are back for another year.

Not quite continuing the movie-based name theme, but it is from TV.

As defending champions I have to join and defend my prowess (luck) and proficiency (guesswork) in fantasy football. I shall keep my name for the moment but may change in keeping with the football theme. My other league has been drafting (off-line) for almost one month (via email). It is a keeper league where we drop only 4 - 7 players each year and the defense is individual players. Quaterbacks are team QB's though. It is interesting and last year's champ had over 25,000 points.

Glad to be back in this fun league...

Stupid question - do I have to follow sports to play? I know the basic rules of football but know nothing about the players or teams.

I hope I don't step on DAnnino's toes by answering, but no, you definitely don't need to follow sports to play. I once won my fantasy hockey league, not despite the fact that I don't follow the sport, but I think because I don't follow it. I was making decisions purely on numbers and did not really attach any significance to who was a big name or had a long history, etc.

That being said, it does help if you have the time to keep up with who is injured, who is slumping, etc. I find that with the once-a-week schedule of fantasy football, sitting down for as little as 10 minutes a week is enough to stay on top of making the necessary roster changes. If you have more time, then reading an article or two could help you to make some of the difficult decisions about which players to start in which situations.

All that to say: C'mon, join -- give it a try!

Ok, I'll do it if its on Yahoo. If my teams get spread over multiple websites I forget to update them.

Is draft order going to be randomly assigned? Also, when will the draft be?

Good answer. And no toes were stepped upon.

See bythb's answer above.

Part of the reason I use Yahoo is because I can keep the Snopesters leagues all in one place. That, and it's free, and it's pretty good at allowing customizing most things.

The draft order is randomly generated by Yahoo right before the draft. And the draft will happen within 72 hours of my closing the league. It usually happens within 24 hours. The league is closed when it its filled (12 teams).

You can prerank your draft. To be honest, unless you are looking for a specific player for your first pick, the default rankings are pretty good.

Police We Have Eight

epdenny had entered his Chupa Cabras. That brings us to eight. So we only need four more.

This is your chance to get in on the fun. Did I mention that it's absolutely free?

Oh I already re-ranked Yahoo's top 25... there are a couple of guys on that list who I feel are there on name recognition, and a couple of players in the 26-50 who I want to make sure I can grab in the second to third round whereas default ranking means I have to hope they fall to me in the third to fourth.

I believe its only 9 days until the first preseason game folks... lets get registered!
