Roll eyes Elvis/Jackson connection

Comment: This just out today:

-----

After the tragic death of Michael Jackson, it was revealed that there was
a mystic link between Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley.

Consider the following:

* Both of their last names have seven letters.
* Both were criticized for too much emphasis on the pelvic area while
dancing.
* Both were known primarily as vocalists.
* Both were accomplished actors.
* Both were listed in the Book of World Records.
* Both were married to (and divorced) a woman whose last name was
Presley (Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley).
* Both met and played with Paul McCartney.
* Elvis was "The King;" Jackson, "The King of Pop."
* Both looked much different near the end of their life than they did
in their 20s.
* Both made famous performances dressed in black leather (Elvis'
comeback special; Jackson's "Bad" video).
* Both were said to cross the racial boundaries between black and
white (Elvish with his music; Jackson with his appearance and music).
* Both recorded Heartbreak Hotel.
* Both had gigantic estates with names that ended in land (Graceland
and Neverland).
* Both died at a relatively early age from complications from
prescription drugs.

OMG! Snopes! Watch where you walk! You might be in for an early death!

Also, isn't seven the most common number of letters for a last name? I vaguely recall reading something like that once.

I read a funny parody of the Lincoln/Kennedy (both of which have seven letters, BTW) coincidences; I don't remember all of it, but one of them was something like "Lincoln wasn't named 'Kennedy,' and Kennedy wasn't named 'Lincoln'!" It was funny at the time.

Both wore leather? Is there an artist who hasn't worn leather at some point? Other than...I don't know, Raffi?

Watch out, Whitney Houston (and, Madonna, for that matter).

I'm guessing someone considered "music videos" to be "film". After doing a quick check at IMDb.com, Michael wouldn't really be all that accomplished. He had a total of 12 "actor" credits, and those credits include the videos for "Thriller" and "Bad" (both of which officially qualify as "short films"), a couple of video games, the "Captain EO" project (and a pre-show/promo), a "Simpsons" episode voiceover, an appearance in Men in Black 2 and his major role in The Wiz. That was in 25 years. Elvis made 31 feature films in less than 15 years (Love Me Tender in 1956 to Change of Habit in 1969; Habit was actually the 3rd Presley film released in 1969, following Charro and The Trouble With Girls).

Wow, that must have saved Priscilla a fortune in legal fees--not having to go through all the necessary document changes and everything. (snark off) What would have been a far more amazing connection would've been if both men had married "Beaulieu" women. (Who came up with this "connection" list? Really. It's very uncommon for a man to divorce a woman who doesn't have his last name, and virtually impossible when Elvis and Priscilla divorced.)

But only one of them actually recorded hit singles with McCartney.

Again--watch out Whitney Houston! Kelly Price and Faith Evans might want to be careful as well. (Just in case there are people who don't get this, Whitney had a 1999 hit song called "Heartbreak Hotel" , featuring credited vocal work from Price and Evans, and like Michael's--actually the Jacksons'--the song was completely different from the Elvis hit.)

So, is this supposed to be better than dying at a relatively early age from complications from ILLICIT drugs? I'm sure the Gibb family would love this bit as the youngest Gibb brother (Andy) died at the age of 30 due to heart failure brought on by years of drug addiction. Regardless of being "prescription" or not, drug abuse is drug abuse.

And how about Michael Jackson and Abraham Lincoln?

* Both of their last names have seven letters and end in -on.
* Both were criticized for grabbing their crotch in public (Lincoln during the famous "Bite Me, Jefferson Davis" speech).
* Both were known primarily as really ugly dudes.
* Both were shot in Ford's Theater while watching "Our American Cousin."
* Both were married to (and divorced) a woman whose last name was
Presley (Priscilla Presley and Mary Todd Presley Lincoln).
* Both met and played with little boys.
* Lincoln was "Honest Abe." Jackson was "Wow, he looks different."
* Both looked much different near the end of their life than they did
in their 20s.
* Both made famous performances dressed in black leather (Lincoln's Gettysburg Address; Jackson's "Bad" video).
* Both were said to cross the racial boundaries between black and
white (Lincoln with his Emancipation Proclamation; Jackson with his appearance and music).
* Jackson recorded "Ben"; Lincoln once killed a rat.
* Both had gigantic estates with names that ended in land (White House Land and Neverland).
* Both died at a relatively early age from complications from
prescription drugs or being shot in the head.

Neil Armstrong and Michael Jackson?

* One has 9 letters in his last name, and the other has 7.
* One walked on the moon, and the other was a child molester.

Oh, wait, those are differences.

Could we not also, therefore, make a link between Michael Jackson and the Queen? After all she rules at least four countries ending in 'land'?

A good many people would argue that Elvis wasn't an "accomplished" actor either; just a prolific one.

That one makes it all sound like a joke - why didn't they just say "Michael Jackson married Elvis Presley's daughter", which is a genuine unusual connection?

The others boil down to them both being really successful singers, really...

The Commercial Appeal had a totally non-serious article about the same topic this morning. GAG. I don't think he'll ever be as big as Elvis, and I don't think his house will ever be as popular as Graceland.
