Icon215 Hark! Where's the Bible Ark?

Ethiopia's Orthodox patriarch cops out on revealing plan for public viewing

The leader of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church today backed off on a much-anticipated announcement about the Ark of the Covenant -- the ancient container holding the Ten Commandment -- which he claims to have seen.

But no other evidence or, indeed, even any announcement, was made public today when word had been expected.

A: Thank you for coming to the press conference. Today is the day I reveal to you the Ark of the Covenant. I'll take questions . . . .

Q: Where is the Ark?

A: It's like a radio to God, in a way. Yes?

Q: No, no, not what--WHERE is the Ark?

A: Where?

Q: Is the Ark, yes.

A: I have come to reveal it to you, to the whole world . . . .

Q: So where is it?

A: Are you ready?

Chorus of Q's: Yes!

A: Prepare yourself . . . here . . . is . . . huh. I must have left it in my other cassock. And Gypsies stole that one. Huh. Well . . . thanks for coming.

They watched Raiders of the Lost Ark the night before and realised if they showed the Ark, people's flesh would melt off and stuff. Are you prepared for the media fallout from that?

That was more or less what the FARK headline said, where I first saw a story about it.

Graham Hancock wrote a book called The Sign And The Seal back in 1992, defending the idea that the Ark is at that temple in Ethiopia. I read it, and, at best, I'd say he's shown that it's possible that it could be, but certainly doesn't prove it is.

... and when Mussolini's Italy occupied Ethiopia (between 1935 and 1941), the Fascists never heard about the Ark and - in 6 long years - didn't grab the occasion to put their hands on the world's holiest relic and bring it to Rome?

Or did the old guardian scare them away?

No. Seriously. They'd better bring a credible explanation for that.
