Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett... the old saw about celeb deaths coming in threes. Morbid, I know.

I hope he's ok, but I can't say I'd be terribly surprised.

I just got a text that Michael Jackson has died. Nothing to link to, as it was a text though.

According to TMZ, he has died

ETA: I'm watching MSNBC and they are saying his condition is "very, very serious" and that his entire family has been called to the hospital.

Yep. My grandmother use to say it.

I've got the TV on MSNBC & I'm refreshing CNN.com so we'll just have to wait & see.

I saw threads on another board saying he had died. No update to that effect on the BBC site yet.

I'm actually surprised I had a physical reaction to reading that, like a punch to the stomach. I was a Michael Jackson fan when younger but he got way too weird and my music tastes changed a lot in my teens. Still, it's quite the shock.

I had no connection to Ms. Faucett or Mr. McMahon, but did with Mr. Jackson due to the age of popularity. So, yeah, I'm had a bit of a reaction as well.

I also felt him to be a fascinating man: talented (a genius really) and tragic and somehow uniquely damaged.

How accurate is TMZ? I've always thought of them as a TV/internet version of a supermarket tabloid.

I am too, and I wasn't ever a fan, because he had already been firmly placed in "freak" by the time I was old enough to care. I'm actually kind of stunned.

Yeah...I feel the same way. I was too young to listen back in the day, really, but I liked his music when I got a bit older...this just feels weird. And unexpected.

If true, it just seems surreal. I figured he would die as a recluse at the age of 90 or something. Michael Jackson dead? It's a weird thing to comprehend.

How sad and sudden! IMO his whole life was pretty tragic. I always really felt for him. Ryda's comment that he was uniquely damaged is so true.

Was on the phone with my mom a minute ago, and the news is reporting that he's dead.

Wow.

Michael Jackson was the first singer I loved. I was quite young at the time, but I had a definite attachment to him. And it's so shocking.

(My news just reported on the rumors about Michael Jackson, but were quick to say it's not confirmed.)

He's got young kids, still.

Damn.
