Vanishing Berlin Wall GWP

From a message board I post on:

"Ok, this is probably not true and I am just a gullible fool but rop ( )
a friend of mine told me that back when the berlin wall was tore down, Estee Lauder cosmetics gave out pieces of the Berlin wall as a free gift-with-purchase. my friend swore that she wasn't joking, and that she had heard it from her history teacher....

is this true???? :S"

Um, I already have a feeling it's not true, and google turns up nothing, not even other retellings. Just sharing.

I do recall that at Venture stores (now defunct, but kind of like a K-Mart) in Missouri, you could buy a little box with what was supposedly a chunk of the wall inside.

I am sure that there are enough chunks of the wall to end up building an entirely new Great Wall of China - and this one big enough to be seen from SPACE!!

A restaurant in our work town has a chunk of the wall. It is appropriate as the place is called Cafe Berlin (serves great German food!).

I have a friend who was in Berlin when the wall came down. She has a piece of it.

In keeping with one of the most successfully perpetuated myths in modern history (that Ronald Reagan won the cold war), there's a section of the wall on display at the Reagan Building in DC.

Dave: so I'm not the only one who grows annoyed seeing the line "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" juxtaposed with footage of the wall coming down, as if there were some causal relationship between the two incidents?

Not at all. You're also not the only one who gets tired of hearing about how "even Gorbachev said Reagan did it." Which he did - mainly as a way of washing his own hands of responsibility.
