Remember this every time you pass that little penny in the parking lot.
I always thought that it was for Good Luck, but I love this version better: I found a penny today Just laying on the ground. But it's not just a penny, this little coin I've found. Found pennies come from heaven, That's what my Grandpa told me. He said Angels toss them down. Oh, how I loved that story. He said when an Angel misses you, They toss a penny down. Sometimes just to cheer you up, To make a smile out of your frown. So, don't pass by that penny, When you're feeling blue. It may be a penny from heaven, that an Angel's tossed to you. So now pass this on to the people who you care about and who you feel are Angels to you, I just did. An Angel is now watching over you. Have A Great Day! Wow, so Heaven has it's own penny making factory? What about if you find a quarter? Was it made in Hell? Purgatory? New Mexico?

I keep seeing images of angels tossing pennies from heaven trying to hit people in the head...

And the terminal velocity of a penny is what? Someone could come up with the exact numbers. I am pretty sure that it is lethal, not "ow".
"Grampa? Why did that man over there fall down with his brains all over the parking lot?" "Pennies from heaven, dear. Now let's get under hard cover." |

Mythbusters did an experiment on pennies tossed from buildings. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MythBus...%29#Penny_Drop
They determined that a penny's terminal velocity is insufficient to cause major injury. Just not enough mass. |

So the coins I found in the payphone the other day were sent to me by an angel. Oh how lovely! Someone misses me up there.

Dear Abby used to have a regular "pennies from heaven" feature where people would send in stories about how they were thinking about their dead relative when suddenly they found a penny with that person's birth year, or something, and so they were sure it was a message from beyond!

I found the clip on Youtube. Unfotunately, the only one I found has some guy at the beginning trying to prove a point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQK-jny3WNM

Could someone please tell the angels that inflation has essentially rendered pennies worthless so if they really want to show their love, they'll start dropping Benjamins.

I keep reading "Penis from heaven". I don't think it's on purpose...

There was a rumor going around my hometown in the late 1980s that pennies you found on the ground were actually cursed pennies left there purposely by satanists, to tempt good Christians over to (cue ominous music) the other side. The people in my church took this very seriously. One way you could tell if a penny was cursed was if it was sitting tail-side up on the sidewalk. And there was a little prayer or blessing you could say over them so you could still feel free to pick them up.
Yeah... there's a reason I stopped going to that church when I was twelve. Last edited by Fantine; 11 March 2007 at 04:39 PM. Reason: To fix the verb tense in the first sentence and add a cynical comment. |
