Icon27 FYI: Godless coin claim a fake

Q: I keep seeing e-mails asking me to boycott the new $1 coins because the U.S. government left out "In God We Trust" on them. Is that true?

A: Don't take any wooden nickels, or in this case, quarters. The fake claim has been circulating the Internet for a while now.

In 2007 the U.S. Mint began releasing a series of $1 coins similar to the 50 State Quarters program launched in 1999, according to Snopes.com — a Web site dedicated to busting online hoaxes. The phrase was in fact never omitted, at least not intentionally, from the coins which bear different U.S. presidents on one side and the Statue of Liberty on the reverse.
