Icon13 Bay leaf repels bugs

Comment: Is it true that if you place a bayleaf in your kitchen cabinet
that the leaf will keep bugs away?

I have always heard that a bay leaf in the flour or in the pantry will keep out bugs. I have no idea why except that it is a strong-smelling plant which might discourage the insects (but then so would many others).

Purely anecdotal, but every time I have moved I put bay leaves in the cabinets (just in case) and used to keep one in the flour and I have never had bugs, so it must work, right?
