Interesting mix of terms. A copper is a penny. Nails are sized by the "penny". A copper nail would be a penny penny.

Or, a copper is a police officer and "nail" can be to arrest someone. So would a copper nail be the arrest of a police officer or an arrest by one?

I can't say I'd ever heard that copper nails killed living trees. However, I was once told that copper nails in the stump of a holly tree (notoriously difficult to kill) would keep it from resprouting. Since I've never had a holly tree (other than seedlings small enough to be pulled up), I've never tested it.

No, but driving a Cooper into a tree can kill the tree.

It might kill the Cooper, too.

Wouldn't it already be dead (and butchered probably) by the time the cooper gets it?
