Expense Account

I've read numerous humorous expense accounts. Some deal with the cost/benefits of heating with wood or biking to work. They always end with a medical calamity, divorce, or both. Such accounts are not new. In the account books of Markle's Mill (on Otter Creek north east of Terre Haute) there are the following entries for one particular patron in the mid 19th century:

Monday 2 gal. whisky $2.00
Tuesday 1 gal. whisky $1.00
Wednesday 2 gal. whisky $2.00
Thursday 3 qts. fine whisky $1.50
Friday Boards and nails for coffin $1.75
