Beastie Boys
Comment: Does the Beastie Boys (white hiphop group) name stand for Boys
Entering Anarchistic Stages Towards Internal Excellence? And if not, how did the rumor get started? It would seem like an amazing coincidence. |

It would seem like an amazing coincidence that a syntactically incoherent acronym can be made up for a seven letter name?

More surprising would be if the author knew what a coincidence was.

Also, "gullible" - not in the dictionary. For reals. Would I lie to you? Would I lie to you baby, would I lie to you?

I've seen an interview with Yauch and Horovitz where they referenced that and admitted it was a backronym, that they thought of some time after Paul's Boutique.
And it isn't any kind of coincidence at all, any more than its an amazing coincidence that my name stands for Deliberately Antagonistic Rude Asshole. I mean, I am all of those things. ETA: Spanked by everyone because I was trying to find a backronym for my name, which is more difficult than you think. |

This is only tangentially related to the OP, but I have have heard a rumor that the Beastie Boys are known to let the beat, um, drop. Can anybody corroborate this?

Can anyone confirm, or deny that there was, in fact, No Sleep Til Brooklyn?
This news should go Intergalactic Planetary. -S. |

Why in the world would the group call themselves the Beastie BOYS if the "B" in "Beastie" already stood for "Boys"? And, more importantly, what does "boys" mean? If "Beastie" is an acronym, then why wouldn't "Boys" also be? (Maybe the whole thing would be Boys Entering Anarchistic Stages Towards Internal Excellence By Outlandishly Yelling S**t.)

The liner notes for "Some Old Bullshit", a collection from the B-Boys hardcore punk days, said that Beastie was an acronym. Unfortunatly I don't have that album anymore so I'll have to pass the mic to someone who does for verification.
P.S. I saw the Beastie Boys in concert, in Houston, back in 1996. The opening act, The Roots! |

Li'l is a bigger Beasties fan than I ever was, thanks completely to Rock Band. Between that game and Guitar Hero, she has learned that all of my old music isn't completely lame. And it cracks me up that she knows all the words to "Don't Fear the Reaper." |
