Icon24 A woman named Marijuana plays it straight - and wins

Police years ago pulled over a young woman who rushed through an amber traffic light. "I'm about to arrest this person right now," the irritated officer radioed to a dispatcher. "She's telling me her name is Marijuana Pepsi Jackson."

It's the truth. Marijuana and Pepsi are her legal first and middle names.

I would have thought her middle name would have been Dorito.

Pepsi works too (because of the cottonmouth.)

My cousin is actually named Mary Juana. She is a bit pissed about it, frankly. I wonder if she has ever had a rough time like this because of it.

I saw cat up for adoption the other day who was named Mary Jane. DD and I had some fun imagining the nickname possibilities: Weeds, Ganja, Spliff, Smoky, Dopey. . . And of course, when she begs for food, it's because she has the munchies!

She gives a surprising amount of credit to her mother for making her resilient and resourceful. "She instilled in me that fighting attitude - never take no, you can do anything," Sawyer said.
That brings to mind "A Boy Named Sue"

I can't imagine how crappy school was for her, I got teased enough just being named Paige. It's odd that she got Marijuana Pepsi and both her siblings got average names. Good for her that she didn't end up really angry and bitter about it, and that she didn't let it stop her from doing something with her life.

Is it that odd? Seems normal enough to me. But then, the rest of my siblings have common names, so there may be a bit of bias in my experience.

Since she got two names that seem extra-unusual (I consider drugs and brand name soda a bit farther from average than unusual names like Apple and Rainbow and such) and it was commented that the names fit the wacky personalities of the parents I'd've just expected that their other name choices would be like that as well. The only people I've known with unusual names have either had unusually-named siblings (though their names were all along the same theme) or no siblings, so my opinion is probably somewhat based on experience as well.
