Comment: I have heard the same rumor from females that attended army basic
training at different posts. Apparently a girl commited suicide while in training and was wearing her pt uniform. When she was found the shirt was hanging in such a way that it read "Amy" instead of "Army." |

I am trying to figure out why this story is worthy of repeating. It does not even claim the girl's name was Amy. It appears to be an assertion only that sometimes when people commit suicide, their clothes get rumpled. Oooh!

Reminds me of the scene in the old parody book of "Lord of the Rings," "Bored of the Rings" wherein very destructive fireworks were provided by a fairy whose name was something like "Amy Surplus."

No part of my PT uniform had the word "Army" written on it -- do modern ones? None of my uniforms said "Army" except on the insignia patches sown on, and those things are so thick they don't wrinkle that easily.

They do now. The shirt is gray with "ARMY" written across the front in black letters.
I suppose the symbolism is to show that she's a person??? As if the Army was so dehumanizing that she wasn't treated as such? Or maybe it's supposed to suggest that her suicide was some sort of heroic statement of her individuality? It's a stupid "story" regardless. Possibly just because I dislike the name "Amy" though... |
