Skull Consciousness after decapitation?

I'm sure we've all heard stories of people who'd been decapiated and that the severed heads blinked, looked around or even tried to talk.

Is it true? If so, what causes it? I, personally, think that it's just the nerves in the brain dying as the person (head?) dies. What do you guys think?

The Breathing Method... *shiver*

ETA, this was a novella in Four Seasons, the other three stories have all been made into movies(The Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil and The Stand)

Yes! Thank you. I have the book somewhere but I didn't feel like digging it out.

I certainly hope it's just nerves dying.
