Comment: Neat in the Shampoo bottle This was a common legend in 1977-1979.

This was a common locker room legend. It's centered around
Middle school or Elementary school Gym class. It usually began with the
end of Gym class in the shower room. Someone is washing his hair and all
of a sudden he notices his hair falling out. He usually either goes
completely bald or mostly bald.

This legend was popular when most men in North America wore their hair
long. So it plays on the fear of being naked and the fear of going bald.
This was said to be a common school prank and in the late seventies almost
everyone claimed to know at least one person who was the butt end of this
prank.

Despite this I was never noticed this happen nor has it ever been
confirmed that neat in a shampoo bottle would render a person bald. It did
play on a lots of typical teenage fears. Being the object of ridicule
looking different.

Once punk/New Wave became the estalished subculture then long hair slowly
started going out of fashion and so did this legend
