Comment: According to a friend, white lighters are bad luck because Jim
Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Curt Cobain were all left handed, 27, and carrying white lighters in their pockets when they died. I have tried to research whether any of this is true on the web but found no legitimate information. |

Sounds like you're probably safe if you're not 27, right handed, and carry your lighter in your purse.

Or you use any other type or color lighter for that matter.

Well, I wouldn't say that it was bad luck that killed Cobain. That shotgun probably played some minor part in it as well.

Not unless you believe that having a white lighter, being left handed or 27 constitutes as cursed.

Judging from that list of victims, I would be more inclined to think that the bad luck was connected with being a drug abuser.

The lighter in my pocket is white. I got it last Christmas and was 27 at the time. However, I am mostly right-handed, apart from eating.
Personally I view it as lucky, as it's the longest I managed to keep a lighter without losing it.

Am I the only one who thought this was referring to Charmed? Granted, I've barely seen any episodes, but it must have wormed its way into my psyche somehow.

What's even sadder is that I assumed it didn't refer to Charmed because Whitelighters is one word in that context.

It's nothing to do with the lighter... my guess is that they forgot to turn the Lucky Last Cigarette upside down in each packet before they started smoking...

Don't worry, 2012 will be chaotic even without the lighter. Though might want to see if white lighters attract dragons......

I don't believe it's the color of the lighter that makes any difference unless ALL the other factors help create that "perfect storm".
I mean, why would a "white lighter" be considered bad luck BY ITSELF, when all the celebs mentioned had 2 other factors? No one's saying that "turning 27 is bad luck" JUST because Cobain, Morrison, Hendrix and Joplin all died at that age. No one's saying that "being left-handed is bad luck" JUST because the four were all left-handed. Yet, "white lighters are bad luck" JUST because 4 rock stars happened to have them when they died. (Heck, I'm surprised no one said "playing rock music--or being a rock musician--is bad luck" because those four died. Yet, based on the white lighter analogy, it would have to be just as true. Hey, maybe I'm on to something: Being a white-lighter-carrying 27-year old left-handed rock musician is bad luck. )
