Hi everyone,
I normally don't send out emails like this, but I was deeply disturbed by an episode of Oprah I watched today, that focused on "Internet Predators," and I feel compelled to send out this "call to action" to everyone I know who will feel the same way I do. This show illuminated a very real issue happening in the U.S. that I was aware of, but not compelled to get involved in. Oprah did her job today and her show and message certainly got to me. I've never felt SO deeply sickened by anything in my life. I'm angered, disturbed and since watching the show, I cannot get the visual picture of my kids or ANY other innocent young infant or toddler being abused by a sexual predator, out of my mind. If you have a chance to view an excerpt from the Oprah show today, please do, so you can understand the issue fully. The show depicts the online training programs (training programs!!) and videos of live rapings of toddlers and infants which sexual predators post on the Internet to entice fellow predators. One rape case involves an infant with an umbilical cord stump still in place and another of an infant with a pacifier in its mouth screaming. You may be thinking that this is nothing new, but the issue has increased with the advent of the Internet, allowing sexual predators to reach a broader audience. We are all parents who want to protect our children, so please join me in writing your senators to support SB 1738--The PROTECT Our Children Act U.S. SB 1738--The PROTECT Our Children Act is a bipartisan bill to combat child exploitation in the U.S. The National Association to Protect Children has been working on this landmark legislation for two years. On Monday the 15th, Oprah Winfrey put the call out for support as well. The bill will be reviewed by the U.S. Senate this month. Please write your Senators to support this bill.
