Comment: I was a cadet at USAFA and what you say about fast neat average
is true. There was another thing we learned about while at the Academy. When pilots get their wings, they fill out a form. On it is personal information about themselves. Some questions ask stuff like What's your favorite color? fav car? etc. In Viet Nam, when a pilot was shot down, a helicopter would go rescue him. It was dangerous business, and if a helicopter went to rescue a pilot in the jungle and put a jungle cage down, the helicopter was very vulnerable. The Viet Cong would call in fake pilot distress signals, and shoot up the helicoter that came to pick up the presumed downed pilot. So, one time a pilot was shot down, a heli came to pick him up and radioed down to him, What is your favorite car?, The pilot panicked, and said he forget everything on that form. The heli pilot said, thanks, have a nice day goodbye. The pilot desparately radioed back that he was a USAFA grad, and did the heli pilot know about the form 0-96. The pilot said fast neat average, the heli pilot said friendly good good, and the fighter jock was rescued. That is the true reason cadets remember the 0-96! Keeps you and gets you out of trouble. |
