Icon06 Girl cries crystal tears

A 12 year-old Lebanese girl has baffled medical experts by producing crystals from her eyes. Coming at a rate of seven a day, the crystals are razor sharp, but do not harm her eyes. Hasnah Mohamed Meselmani's condition is yet to be explained.

The video appears to be from 1996, and has been debunked by Joe Nickell in a 1997 Skeptical Inquirer article. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...21/ai_19524413

Quote:
Hasnah, who claims to produce up to seven crystals a day, showed a collection of the allegedly apported rocks. From their rhomboidal shape and other properties, I recognized them as the natural quartz crystals generally known as "Herkimer diamonds." With the television crew being expected to arrive here the following day, I hastily made some phone calls and soon had acquired a handful of the gemstones.

Although such stones are indeed sharp - and I could see a dark red spot inside the girl's eyelid that probably represented a wound from one of them - I decided to duplicate the effect. All that was necessary was to pull out the lower eyelid to form a pouch and drop in a small crystal so that it rested, only a bit uncomfortably, out of sight (Photo 2). A tug on the lower lid causes the stone to come into view (Photo 3) and then pop out of the eye. This I demonstrated at an appropriate time for the television camera, allowing their reporter to actually do the extraction himself. The effect was indistinguishable from the Lebanese "miracle."

The explanation quoted in KKHB's post was exactly what I thought when I saw the video.

Wasn't there also an Indian boy who "cried" threads of cotton. He'd tucked small coils of cotton in the eyelid and slowly pulled the thread to give the impression he was producing the cotton thread from his eye.

Me too! When I watched the video I figured the crystals were placed in her eyes rather than produced there, but it made me shudder anyway. Actually, I think putting them there is creepier than if it were natural.

Me too--the idea of anything sharp in my eye pockets is creepy!
