Default Violent J - poet?

I have a recording of Joe "Violent J" Bruce from Insane Clown Posse reading this very touching poem...

"I looked at you and smiled the other day
I thought you'd see me, but you didn't
I said I loved you and waited for what you'd say
I thought you'd hear me, but you didn't
I asked you to come outside and play ball with me
I thought you'd follow me, but you didn't
I drew a picture just for you to see
I thought you'd save it forever, but you didn't
I made a fort for you back in the woods
I thought you'd camp out with me, but you didn't
I found some worms and stuff for fishing
I thought you'd want to go with me, but you didn't
I needed you just to talk to, to share my thoughts with
I thought you'd want to, but you didn't
I told you about this game, hoping you'd show up to play
I thought you'd surely come, but you didn't
I asked you to share my youth with me
I thought you'd want to, but you couldn't
My country called me off to war
You asked me to come home safely, but I didn't."

I've never heard this poem anywhere else... so is this an older poem, or is Violent J actually a decent poet at heart??

Damn, I spoke too soon. The true author of this poem was named Stan Gebhardt.

Oh well... still, great poem, and definitely a lot more heart-felt than the stuff we've come to expect from ICP!

This is probably a stupid question, but Stan Gebhardt and Violent J aren't the same person, right? I assume that his parents didn't call him Violent J.

Hmm, thank you, but it was actually just a stupid question - I just noticed from the OP that Violent J's real name is Joe Bruce!

Yeah, Stan Gebhardt doesn't sound like the name of a person who'd be successful in the rap music industry.

Even still, despite being half of one of the most notorious groups ever (and one of the most hated ever), Violent J actually seems to have a heart lurking somewhere in his clown-painted body... there was this occasion, there was a song he did about his mom, there was a song he did called "Family" which involved a few of his relatives, and apparently he was extremely consolatory to a mother who went to one of their shows after her son, who was a huge ICP fan, committed suicide.

Go J!

ICP may be "dark clowns" but they are still humans.. underneath the clown makeup are real people with likes dislikes family and emotions.

Why do people feel that a personae=the person?

Well yes, obviously I know that Joseph Bruce and Joseph Utsler aren't two clown-paint wearing homicidal maniacs.

You never know though... some people are pretty much exactly the same character they appear to be. I've heard Paul Mooney (from "Chappelle's Show") is a good example of that.
