Comment: Dear Barbara and David,
Thank you for all that you do to help me combat ridiculous spam in my inbox. I am now going to try to start a trend of "pay-it-backward" insisting that when you discover falsehoods in your inbox, you inform the senders and insist that they not break the chain going backwards to spread the word about Snopes.com. The truth shall set us free. Or at least let us not appear so ignorant... Here is a copy of my latest e-mail response to my sister, who insists on forwarding things without checking with you first: Oh dear. This is so full of lies I don't even know where to start. Please always check out this type of e-mail on Snopes.com before you blast it on to others. http://www.snopes.com/rumors/north.asp http://www.snopes.com/rumors/atta.asp Please go back to the e-mail that was sent to you containing this message and forward this information on to them. Please do not break the chain. If you agree that the American public should be made aware of the truth and not spam revisionist history, pass it back. Snopes.com Snopes .com Snopes.com Please bookmark it in your search engine and it will be easy to check these things. |

Comment: Just want to say "Thanks" for what you do! I love your site even
more now since I saw you on the CBS Sunday Morning show. I was surprised to learn that you don't have a room full of people doing your research AND that so much of your research is actually gleaned from books and not the internet! So as I read about things like the "Horses Pass" story, I'm even more appreciative of the information you provide. Thanks for what you do.. it's educational, informative, and entertaining! |

e-mail could be verified, confirmed or denied by your team. Thank you for your efforts and this important service. |

Comment: Hi Barbara,
I just wanted to let you know the article on bananas (possibly going extinct) was great. When else would one ever get to use the phrase, "sterile seedless mutants" in a sentence and not have it either be a joke or something from a sci-fi comic? It was truly a great article and a great laugh as well. Your sign-off should have been, "Barbara "top-banana" Mikkelson. |

Comment: I saw the article on you in a magazine. It was very interesting
to read about the people behind this website. I am so glad your site exists. It is great to be able to go somewhere and see what is true and what is not. It is amazing the people that do not check emails out before blindly passing them along. Again, thanks for what you do. It is great to be able to do what you are passionate about. In this case, many reap the benefits. Blessings. |

Comment: Dear Barbara,
I am a huge fan of Snopes.com, and reference it on a regular basis. You have no idea (or probably, you do) how many email forwards I regularly refute with your astute help! I look forward to the opportunity to discuss all of this with you at greater length at some point. But I believe my favorite elements of all your endeavors are the "nicknames" you assign yourself at the end of many articles. So my message here today is to congratulate you on one of your best; at the close of the article on the Coriolis force (and I shall never watch my sink drain in the same way again) you signed off with, "as the whirl cisterns".... Too beautiful! You had me laughing out loud, yet again. (I admit, I am a man of simple pleasures, obviously...) Please keep up your enlightening and important work. In the words of the great philosopher, Leslie Nielsen, "We're all counting on you!" |

test". It is annoying that more people don't bother to check things out; THANK YOU for what you do. |

Comment: Love the site and the article in Readers Digest. Always look up
the rumors on your site and "reply all" to the sender and everyone else, with the link back to your web site debunking these urban ledgends. Keep up the fantastic work. |

Comment: Just thought I'd write to say I love this site and have been a
fan of it for many years. In fact, the BS email I used to get is non-existent now that I refer people here to check the garbage they get before they hit "forward". Keep up the good work!! Thanks! |

Comment: I just read the article about you two in Reader's Digest. I love
what you do and thank you for it. It is really something we truly need. I find it hard to believe people don't look up every single email when they get them instead of forwarding to their address book. I sometimes feel cynical, but I look them all up... and reply all with your link when I find it. (along with the recommendation that everyone use snopes before forwarding, even when the emails says "I checked this on snopes and it is true" ugh!) thanks again. |

Comment: My only complaint about this site is that I didn't come up with
it first! As a person who actually spends their internet time for work, research and learning, it's been great having a site like this to refer to when I get forwaded emails. Some of those emails would have turned me into a paranoid nut by now, if not for this site. I can and will get the facts from Snopes (if the truth is out there). Snopes.com is a great web site. I just wanted to say so. Kudos who you all. |

Comment: I want to say "Thank You" ... Friends and/or family members are
always sending me emails warning me of the many various dangers their friends or family have sent them via email ...... and they, of course, feel the instant need to send this and all newly discovered dangers out to everyone they know without checking if what they are sending out is true or not...Thus, passing on and coninuing the hype and false information. The latest of these being about "Code Grabbers" that sit in parking lots and rob your car while the driver is away for five minutes and that the story is Snope approved...despite this claim, I still checked with Snopes...always check with Snopes. The absurdity of some of these claims make me laugh but... no matter what it is about I always check with Snopes to find out if it is true or not. Most of the time their "warnings" are false information or mixed with a bit of truth. Therefore, I always reply back to whomever sent it to me and tell them their information is false, send them a Snopes link to the information, to pass this information back to the person that sent it to them and I always tell them to check with Snopes before sending out these sometimes strange and absurd warnings to people. I guess you can say I am the one link in the email "chain" that keeps breaking rank to verify the vaility of any and all claims. Nevertheless ... I have Snopes to thank for both easing my mind and breaking the "chain" of false emails. |

Comment: I am so thankful for your site, I cannot tell you how many
forwards I get, telling me about random things that always, and I do mean always, turn out to be false. Thank you for providing us with truth and validity. I learned the hard way not to forward emails without checking their validity first. Thanks Snopes.com, you are awesome! |

Comment: Hi, Barbara & David...
I just read the update at FactCheck that was contained in your newsletter I received. As soon as I saw the e-mailer in the article state something to the effect that it's been a mystery as to who is behind Snopes, I knew the writer either had an agenda or is a moron. I've been reading your site for many years and trying to get my friends and relatives into the habit of checking your site before they send me something. Alas, I've not had much luck 8-) I appreciate all of your time and effort in debunking e-mails, etc. And as a Conservative in general, I can attest that I have found no evidence of any "left-leaning" instances. True Conservatives should just be interested in the truth--no matter what it is. Anyway, thanks again for your site--it is a nice respite from all of the rubbish one runs into on the internet. |

Comment: Dear Barbara and David,
Just read the article on Factcheck.org, and was cheering all the way. You guys rock! Many a time have I replied to mass e-mails from my friends perpetuating various bogus letters by attaching a link to a page on Snopes.com that debunks the e-mail. Keep up the excellent work! |
