Default Johnny Knoxville shoots himself?

I'm curious about this video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K21YdhuxjlM

(Yes, I posted it, because it's very hard to find otherwise.) In a nutshell, it's the original version of the already-insane 'Self Defense' skit from Jackass, with a twist - this version goes on past where the TV version ended, to show Johnny in a Kevlar vest, playing Russian Roulette in the desert, which of course ends with him shooting himself.

But I'm wondering - did he fake this? I mean, he shoots himself in the stomach from a distance of like, two inches. I would think that at point blank range, a Kevlar vest would be useless.

I don't think that's the right link. It's some "Why do you hate?" video

Is this it?

It's real, the kevlar vest did exactly what it is supposed to do. The fact that he had powder burns (and will have on heck of a bruise) makes it that much more real. The guys from Jackass are idiots, and heard an interview with Bam talking about Johnny, saying Johnny seems to have a death wish. shooting himself with a .38 is exactly in line with what the guys do/have done.

He says it's a Level IIA vest and the gun is chambered in .38, which isn't a very powerful round and could be stopped by Level I armor (the next rating below IIA).

It's not surprising that the vest worked, even at near-contact range. I think Richard Davis, who founded Second Chance Body Armor, used to do demonstrations for his bullet-resistant vest in the late 1970s or 1980s where he would put on his armor, shoot himself in the chest with a .44, and immediately turn the gun around and shoot four or five targets.

Johnny Knoxville's stunt is pretty weak in comparison . . .

Some were in one of my pysics classes we were taut that when firing gun (energy applied to movent) the exeleration is not instantanious. So the bullet is still gaining speed as its leaving the barrel and still some distance after that. Max velocity for most bullets fired from a gun found out around 100 feet from the barrel.

The gases accelerate the bullet until it exits the barrel. Then the only force acting on the bullet is air resistance, which causes the bullet to lose velocity. The maximum velocity of the bullet is the muzzle velocity.

What (magical?) force causes the bullets to continue to accelerate after leaving the barrel?
