Default Reversed PIN in Orlando Sentinel

Happily, they realized that it's a bogus claim. Apparently, the technology exists, it's just not being used anywhere.

Maybe if the myth keeps perpetuating, consumers will push banks to adopt it. I don't see why they [the banks] wouldn't - it could indeed help someone, and what harm is there to the bank? Maybe a little good PR for having this customer service option. And, it means the banks can raise their ridiculous fees even more because it's a "service" which might cost them a whole penny or two per account holder!

Toad"There is a special place in hell for bankers, y'know"Magnet

ETA: Because I started to apologize for being so cranky about banks, but then I changed my mind because I realize there are probably some perfectly nice bankers out there, but then I got annoyed all over again at how much money they take for the privilege of holding our money, then I decided to give up and be vague. There is no appropriate smiley for this. Except maybe

It could be problematic for people with pins that are palindromes, though. My mother would be devastated if she had to change her pin (which is a palindrome) that she can already barely remember!

What is so difficult about putting some sort of alarm button on an ATM. Something that would allow a set amount to be taken out to placate the person doing the robbery, but also alert the police and ensure the cameras started recording.

Technologically nothing. But I could see the potential for abuse. There are a worrying number of people (at least over here) who get their kicks by phoning the emergency services with hoax calls. However unconvinced the emergency operator may be, they still have to send out police/fire/ambulance as requested.

Now if every ATM in town had a 'summon the police' button, then those inclined to do this mischief would just go around pressing the buttons for kicks, then buggering off.

What if the "summon police" button only worked once you put your card in the machine? Then whoever hit the button would be ID'd by their cards and the security cameras.
