First of all, Henry Ford suffered a number of strokes in the years preceding his death, and his mental faculties had declined significantly by the time he passed away. Secondly, his only recorded words at his deathbed were complaints that he didn't feel well.

All the military do to keep something deniable is to change the number as soon as conspiracy theorists identify something. A prime example is the stealth fighter. This was known to conspiracy theorists and others as the F19, which resulted in senior USAF officers giving statements that the F19 didn't exist, only to release details later of the F117 (a number which if it had been legitimate would have meant it being developed pre-Vietnam)
