Airplane AVG 777: non-existent volunteer unit

Comment: We have all heard of the American Volunteer Group that went
to China prior to and during WW II..."The Flying Tigers".

An e-mail is circulating about a little known groups of US pilots who went
to the USSR in WW II and fought against the Germans. The e-mail says they
were known as AVG 777.

Click on this Link for more info on the Triple Seven:

Unfortunately the entire Unit History is made up. There
never was a US volunteer group fighting with the Soviets.

The entire Unit History of the AVG 777 was created to support a computer
game called "IL2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles".

It is based on combat between the Soviets and Germans and
it was the top ranked flight sim game at the turn of the century. It's
good and had quite a following in years past, but its star is fading now.

I'm sending you this info so you can prepare a Snopes page warning others
that the AVG 777 Unit History isn't real.

The creator of the flight sim game did a heckuva good job.
I was convinced the AVG 777 Unit history was accurate.
