Icon220 More Disney entertainment stolen from the Japanese

Comment: I've heard from three different people now that
the Disney TV show phenomenon 'Hannah Montana' is completely ripped off
from a japanese kids' show from the 90's [the name of the alleged show is
never mentioned, which leads me to believe that this is just a legend]
with the exact same plot, character personalities, etc. Is this true?

Of course there's so many Japanese cowboys. Makes perfect sense.

Hannah Montana ain't no cowboy, podnuh. She's a singin' sensation.

All the best cowboys have Chinese eyes, though. Well, according to my Pete Townshend album.

Her father is the cowboy. But don't tell his heart.

Ponder It's exactly like it but completely different

Apparently the plot of Hanna Montana is a ripoff of a show with a completely different plot:

What are they supposed to be copying, the idea of a kid with a secret identity?

Actually Hannah Montana is more of a rip-off of Jem and the Holograms, an 80s cartoon about [surprise] a teenage girl who's secret persona is a rock/pop superstar.

I don't know if it's a direct rip-off, but teenage idol with a secret identity as a highschool student is a very common theme in Japan manga. You can find tons of those.

There are even a couple of different manga where the girl teenage idol is actually a boy high schooler.

It's common in anime as well. I think it's so that they can show girls in skimpy school uniforms.

Not that I'm complaining...

it's a very common theme...

My secret identity, with Jerry O'Connell had a similar meme. Jem and the holograms of course... a lot of teenage shows were like that. I'm sure the basic plot of that goes back a lot further than TV...

There was a lawsuit against Disney because of this show brought by a man who claims he pitched a show called "Rock and Roland" that featured the same premise, but with a male lead.

Yeah. Hannah Montana is actually a rip off of one of my favorite 80s cartoons, Jem And The Holograms. They should have just gotten the rights to and made a new version of Jem instead of Hannah Montana.
