I don't know if this has been covered or not, but I did a search for it and came up with nothing.
When I was in first grade or so, my friend told me a story that a friend of hers got a lifesaver caught in his throat. But because of the hole in the middle of the candy he was able to breathe and therefore didn't choke. I know this is a FOAF story, but I was wondering if this is even POSSIBLE. I mean the candy would have to get stuck at JUST the right angle, and even then would the hole in it really help? Any ideas? |

I doubt it would help for the reasons you stated. In any case that's not where they got their name...it's from their likeness to actual lifesavers, right, that is, the plastic blow-up things you throw into a pool to save someone from drowning?

Aren't they called Life savers because they look like life preservers?
