We very seldom see women buying Playgirl in the store. Almost always men. I guess it's slightly less embarrassing than buying the other male nudity centered magazines we carry.

They can always claim they're picking up a copy for their wife/girlfriend/as a prank... an openly gay man's magazine I suppose they could say it's a prank, but I doubt anyone would even pretend to believe them.

I thought about this when I actually saw an advertisement for "Boys Gone Wild" on late night comedy central. They were like ladies get ready for the wildest college guys you've ever seen!!! I thought that, no women are going to buy this crap. Just gay men.

And Playgirl is far from the for-women version of Playboy--P'girl is full of really, really, *really* truly god-awful writing, unlike P'boy, which does actually have some good articles (or did the last time I read one, which was admittedly a long time ago).

I sometimes buy Playboy. Just for the articles, of course.

Many women I know admit to having looked at Playgirl at some point out of curiosity, and finding it pretty tame and boring. I've had them tell me that if you want to see really hot pictures of men, you go to the magazines that are openly aimed at gay men.
I wonder how many lesbians buy Playboy -- or at least sneak looks at it when they find a copy at their brother's apartment? Just for the articles, I'm sure. Playgirl made a big publicity splash when they had their first issue with Burt Reynolds as the centerfold, but I think that was pretty much the only time it was actually relevant. I'm somewhat surprised it's even still in business.
