Ahh Snopesters. One thing I have learned from this site is to nto take things at face value. I have often heard Albert Einstein quoted as saying :
"I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." So, because it's a slow night at work, I decided to actually look this up. Though I found many sites that use this quote and attribute it to Einstein, I did not find any reference to when or where he said it, just that he said it. Any one help on this? |

As far as I can tell, the story of his response to the question (of what World War III will be fought with) was first published in about 1948, while Einstein was still alive.
http://books.google.com/books?lr=&as...G=Search+Books I think this is a real quote, though it seems to come in several forms. ETA -- Err... this would seem to be earlier than the story snopes mentions below. Maybe he said it twice? |

In an interview with Alfred Werner (published in Liberal Judaism in 1949), Einstein said: "I do not know how the Third World War will be fought, but I can tell you what they will use in the Fourth -- rocks!"

thanks for the help. I looked at a couple dozen sites and could not find a cite that gave a time and place.
