Huckabee stole the furniture

Comment: I friend of mine told me that presidential candidate Mike
Huckabee and/or his staff were caught stealing furniture and the like from
the governor's mansion in Arkansas. He said that one of the
television/cable channels did an expose on this.

I haven't heard this myself, but aren't the private living quarters of most governor's mansions furnished by the governor? The same goes for the White House. When a aresident leaves, he takes his stuff with him.

Unless this is furniture in public areas or special rooms, akin to stealing the drapes fromt he Red Room when you leave office.

Presidents take their own furniture to the White House? I don't think so outside of a whatever few pieces they might want to take. Most Presidents -- and governors, I'd assume -- continue to maintain their homes while living in the executive mansions.
