Comment: Apparently the Rhode Island School of Design has a hockey team
called the Nads. Their mascot is nicknamed Scrotie. Their cheer is Go Nads!! http://www.mediabistro.com/unbeige/e...alia_75070.asp http://www.risdstore.com/SearchResul...?CategoryID=55 Anyway, this seems too far out there to be true, but the quick look at the evidence on line is equivocal. Anyone with access to a few domain names and forums could easily get this off the ground if it were a hoax. It has legs because of how funny it is. But on the other hand, I suppose stranger things have happened and may actually be true. Any insight? The application FAQ of the school (http://www.risd.edu/apply_faq.cfm) has the following to say: "RISD's own sports teams include basketball ("The Balls") and ice hockey ("The Nads"). There is also men's and women's soccer, a skiing group, biking and climbing clubs. Students may participate in Brown University's Ultimate Frisbee, tennis and softball teams. Contact the Office of Student Life at 401 454-6602 for more information." |

My ex-brother-in-law went to RISD, and he claims to have been there when the Nads were first named. This would have been around 1996 or so. I've never heard of the Balls, though! That must have been after Dan graduated.

And as if being called "The Balls" wasn't enough, the basketball team's actual slogan is: "When the heat is on, the Balls stick together."

I went to RISD for a year and a half (04-05) and had friends that played on the Nads. Here are some pictures, both of the Nads and Scrotie (NSFW /NFBSK if you object to large foam phallases. daily jolt photo album.
Never went to any of the Balls games but do know they are still around, along with their cheerleaders, the Jock Straps. |
