Icon605 Unsolicited merchandise law

Comment: Does anyone know about the new law regarding unsolicited phone
calls where the caller ask if the person who answers is this Mr/Mrs so in
so? After which they send unsolicited merchandise or services, and the
recipient is obliged by this new law to assume reponsibility to pay for
them? It is unconfirmed that our Federal legislature passed this into law
this year. If this indeed fact, the result can be catastropic. I need
to know the law number so I can see who supported this and read the entire
law in order to follow up.

It basically says that if someone sends you unsoliticed stuff, you can keep it, without obligation

I always heard this too. Don't remember if I heard it from my best friend, whose dad was the postmaster of our town (and who always lectured us on the illegality of chain letters and other no nos!) or if I heard it from my lawyer relatives but I had heard it.

I keep hoping that Harry Winston will confuse me with Susan Lucci or Christina Aguilera right before some awards ceremony. Hasn't happened yet. Heh.

Atlanta consumer guru Clark Howard says if they send it and you didn't ask for it, it's yours.

Read This! The Law

Here is the actual law as written:
Title 39, United States Code, Section 3009

The law hasn't changed since August 12, 1970.
