It's become something of an urban legend that the Bush administration is out to retrieve enlistment bonuses from wounded veterans of the Iraq war, a claim perpetuated by Hillary Rodham Clinton in the latest Democratic presidential debate.

It's been pretty well documented that the V.A. has catalogued vets with PTSD as having it due to a "pre-existing condition," and has denied them medical treatment on that basis.

The ill-treatment of vets by the military, under the Bush watch, is far from merely an UL. Remember the photos of the substandard wards at Walter Reed?
