Neener, Neener ‘Lesson’ nothing more than a fraud

In response to Clayton Joslin’s “history lesson” on Social Security (Readers’ Forum, Jan. 6) — turning an e-mail chain into an editorial does not a history lesson make.

One quick search on snopes.com (www.snopes.com/politics/taxes/sschanges.asp) reveals nearly the exact wording of this editorial, with many of the “facts” refuted and/or clarified.

The article on Snopes is quite lengthy so I’m not even going to bother to debate each point. What scares me more than anything else is that most people are lazy enough to simply believe anything that lands in their e-mail box. I hope most readers of the editorial page are a little more discerning than that.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve just won the British lottery, and some lawyer in Nigeria tells me I’ve inherited a vast sum of money from the estate of someone I’ve never met who has no legal heirs except me. I better get busy if I’m going to spend that money.
